Objective By comparing the results between susceptibility weighted imaging(SWI) and conventional MRI sequences on the evaluation of venous cerebral infarction(VCI),to explore the diagnostic value of SWI in this disorder. Methods The image data of 28 patients with VCI diagnosed clinically were retrospectively analyzed. All patients were performed routine MR and SWI examination. The identified ability and the displayed details within the lesion by two modalities were compared. Results24 patients were diagnosed by SWI,in whom 18 were hemorrhagic VCI. While,18 were diagnosed by conventional MR,in whom15 were hemorrhagic VCI. In addition, the dilated venule in the image of infarct area was demonstrated in minimum density projection(Min IP) of SWI,but, unable to discern by the conventional MR images. In 11 cases,SWI showed that the number of the infarction area hemorrhagic focus or amount of the bleeding were much than those by routine MR. Conclusion SWI is more sensitive than conventional MR sequences in displaying VCI,which is more helpful for the judgment of the development of VCI.
