Preparing for her presentation in the Asian Comparative Education Conference held in Cambodia in 2018,Professor Ruth Hayhoe spent a whole year in reading papers to study the Angkor civilization. The Angkor civilization plays an important role in the development of Cambodia, and Professor Ruth Hayhoe found that the spread of Buddhism by Indian monks was the direct cause of the rise of Angkor civilization. Indian monastic universities, such as Taxila and Nalanda, were the communication center of Buddhism culture, attracting many Chinese monks to study there. The Buddhism culture they brought back to China laid the foundation for the emergence of Shuyuan. Interestingly, the texts recording the diffusion history of Buddhism culture were written by Chinese monks. It is worth mentioning that the Mahayana School of Buddhism allowed thousands of Chinese women to engage in scholarship. Shuyuan shows the traditional Chinese culture, and at present when achieving "double worldclass",China should focus on bringing peace to the world and eliminating poverty with its unique roots of its own culture. The model of the western research university is not the only model of the "first class"university. The construction of the "Double-First Class"university in China should adhere to its own characteristics and should not follow the rankings of western universities blindly.
