历代医家对乳岩的病名、证候、病因、病机、治法、调护有着详实的记载。正气不足、气血阴阳虚弱、脏腑功能衰退是乳岩发生的内在原因;外感六淫、邪气侵袭、积滞于乳络、聚而成瘤、邪气留滞是乳岩发生的外在因素。七情内伤、郁怒忧思、损伤肝脾、肝失疏泄、气机郁滞、脾虚痰凝、结于乳络、经年累月、内生结核是乳岩发生的重要因素;饮食失调、恣食肥甘厚味、辛辣之物、损伤脾胃、脾胃运化失司、遂生痰湿、气血运行受阻、气滞血瘀于乳络、遂生结核是乳岩的发病因素。治疗方面,内治法以疏肝理气,益气养血健脾为主;外治法有灸法、敷药法等。戒七情,远厚味为乳岩的调护方法。
