The poem Snake written by D. H. Lawrence has always been a hot topic in the academic cir-cles at home and abroad. Most scholars pay much attention to the cultural connotation, literary image or symbolic meaning of the snake. The philosopher, Jacques Derrida, did research into the poem in a quite dif-ferent way. He not only outlines the profound thought of animal ethics, but also reveals the modernism aesthetic thought between the rhyme and text in the poem. In this way, the philosophic thoughts of animal "other" shared by Lawrence and Derrida overturned the philosophical tradition of western anthropocen-trism since ancient Greece and reshaped the image of animal sovereignty. Based on this, this paper attempts to interpret Derrida's concept of animal ethics, which is expected to be beneficial to the construction of ec-ological civilization in modern times.
