The tide of Han tablet inscriptions and official script in the 17 th century is regarded as an important phenomenon in the history of Chinese calligraphy. During that course, some late Ming calligraphers criticized the concept of official script among Suzhou calligraphers and accused them of mistaking the Wei tablet inscriptions for the Han counterparts. This opinion is still popular in today's research. However, the current author points out that "Wei" and "Han" in the context of Late Ming calligraphy did not refer to the date of tablet inscriptions but to their style. The criticism that the Wei tablet inscriptions were mistaken for the Han's inappropriately split the calligraphy of the Wei and Han period and was only out of a partial viewpoint.
