The Validity of“A White Horse is not a Horse”Demonstrated from the Semantic Perspective

传统哲学认为"白马非马"是一个错误命题,但对该命题的争论一直存在。就语言学尤其是语义学来讲,"白马非马"这个命题有其固有的语义价值。语义学中,"白马非马"是被用作阐释指称理论的典型例子。运用弗雷格的指称理论对"白马"和"马"进行区分,并与语义学的"指称"和"意义"相对应,将"白马"这一具体指称与"马"这一抽象概念区别开来,以进一步论证"白马非马"这个命题在语义学中的正确性。

“A white horse is not a horse” is considered to be a false proposition in traditional philosophy and there has always been a debate on it.However,in linguistics,this proposition has its own semantic significance.In semantics,“A white horse is not a horse” is regarded as a model to explain the referential theory.By means of Frege’s referential theory,the paper distinguishes “white horse” from “horse” to demonstrate the validity of “A white is not a horse” in semantics.
