严廷中是活跃于清代嘉庆、道光、咸丰三朝的云南著名文人,他才华横溢,在诗歌、戏曲、文学理论等领域均有著作传世。其少时随父亲仕宦在外,成年后又出仕山东,游历京师、江南等地。在江南期间,倡春草诗社,和者众多形成风尚,在云南省内外均享有较高的声誉。

Yan Tingzhong was a famous writer in Yunnan and he was active in three periods of Jia,Dao and Xian in the Qing Dynasty.He has handed down his works in the fields of poetry,drama and literary theories. His companied his father who was an official in other province when he was young. When he was an adult,he was also an official in Shandong,and he visited Beijing,Jiangnan and other places. During this period,his poetry club was highly popular as the contemporary trend and attracted a lot of poets.
