清鼻音在汉藏语中有较广的分布。藏缅语中的清鼻音来自~*sN,其音变过程为~*sN>hN>N。攸县赣方言中的清鼻音是后起的,来自音节中的鼻音韵尾,其音变过程为hN>N。苗瑶语、壮侗语中的清鼻音来源于~*Nh,有~*Nh>Nh>N>N和~*Nh>Nh>h两个不同的音变方向。汉藏语中的清鼻音是清擦音在音节内同化浊鼻音的结果。

There is a wide distribution of voiceless nasals in Sino-Tibetan languages. Voiceless nasals in Tibeto-Burman languages are from^＊sN,and the phonological change process is^＊sN hN N. The voiceless nasals of Gan dialect in You County are from the nasal syllabic ending which emerged later and the phonological change process is hN N. Voiceless nasals in Miao-Yao and Zhuang-Dong languages are from^＊Nh,with two different ways of phonological change which are^＊Nh Nh N and^＊Nh Nh h. Voiceless nasals in Sino-Tibetan languages are the result of voiceless fricatives assimilating voiced nasals in a syllable.
