Edward Taylor's poetry, often on spirituality and nature, deals with, among other things, the relationship between nature and God and thus has significance of ecological theology. His poetry is characterized by( 1) contemplation on the relationship between man and God in his close observation of nature,( 2) the involvement of religion in his direct description of natural presences such as trees and grass, and( 3) the exploration of the nexus among God,man and nature by evoking the natural image of"the tree of life". These three characteristics show the value of his spirituality and his thought on environmental protection.
