Lu You,Xin Qiji and the Kaixi Northern Expedition

开禧北伐引发陆游、辛弃疾等人的关注。北伐之前,他们态度谨慎:陆游相对急切,畅想宋军收复故国的情景,但毕竟年迈,只能抱持旁观立场;辛弃疾既予以支持和响应,又有所保留。北伐期间,辛弃疾认识到韩侂胄用人不当的问题,赞成对其绝不姑息的处罚态度;陆游感情复杂,在不得不服老又难免眼热的同时,能关注到前线战士和征战造成的民生不幸。北伐失败后,陆游感慨韩侂胄及其亲党的不幸结局,体现出其支持北伐的一贯立场。

Kaixi Northern Expedition aroused the concerns of Lu You, Xin Qiji, etc. Before the Northern Expedition, they were prudent in attitude. Lu You was relatively eager to imagine the recovery of Song’s territory; however, he could only stand on the sidelines given his old age. Xin Qiji, on the one hand, supported and responded to it; on the other hand, he held himself back. During the Northern Expedition, Xin Qiji realized Han Tuozhou’s problem of employing improper personnel but approved of Han’s strict penalty with no tolerance. Lu You had complex feelings： he had to accept the fact that he was old but could not help with eager interest; meanwhile, he was concerned about the frontline fighters and the people’s miserable livelihood caused by the conquests. After the failure of the Northern Expedition, Lu You was full of emotional thoughts about the tragic ending of Han Tuozhou and his loyalists, which reflects Lu You’s consistent position of supporting the Northern Expedition.
