胡适是中国现代史上著名的学者、思想家,同时也是一位曾为中国抗战各地奔走的外交家。抗日战争之前,胡适对日本军国主义的野心缺乏正确的研判,力主外交解决中日之间的矛盾,有避战、尽力谋求和平的倾向,暴露出其对局势把握上的不切实际。其后来思想的转变和对抗战的态度,是对日本侵华事实不得不承认的结果。抗日战争时期,其作为欧美非正式大使和政府正式任命的驻美大使,在大洋彼岸积极活动,阐发中国抗日战争与世界和平的密切关系,在博取世界各国对中国抗战的了解与支持,为中国抗战争取经济、政治、军事等援助方面,付出了自己的心力。

Hu Shi is a famous scholar and ideologist in modem Chinese histou, and also a diplomat go- ing around for China＇s Anti-Japanese War. Before the war, He lacked the correct judgment on the barbarism of Japanese militarism and advocated the diplomacy to resolve the contradiction between China and Japan. He was inclined to avoid the war and try his best to seek peace, which exposed his unrealistic grasp of the situation. The later change of his thought and attitude to the War of Resistance were the result of admitting the fact of Japanese aggression against China. In the period of the Anti-Japanese War, as the informal ambassador of Europe and the United States, and the formally appointed ambassador of the United States by the government, he actively worked on the other side of the ocean and elucidated the close relationship between China＇s AntiJapanese War and the world peace. He made the mental efforts in gaining the world＇s understanding and support of China＇s War of Resistance and getting the aid of economy, politics and militalT.
