In recent days, the resolute refusal of a 67-year-old mother who lost her only child to terminate the pregnancy in Beijing has triggered widespread public debates and brought us many social and ethical issues worth thinking. Citizens reproductive rights are not absolute reproductive rights but relative reproductive rights. While freely choosing to give birth, they should also be responsible to themselves, children and society. The medical cost of elderly pregnant women needs to be guaranteed, and the establishment of the pre-pregnancy assessment mechanism for elderly women and the reasonable setting of the age limit for artificial insemination can effectively solve the problems in the reasonable allocation of medical resources. The contradiction between the need of the family lost the only child for comfort and the healthy growth of children can be solved by taking care of the elderly who lost their only child and improving the adoption mechanism of the family.
