中国第一家国家中央银行诞生于千年商都广州,广东银行停业是中国近代第二次银行停业倒闭风潮的标志。金融风潮突如其来,地方官府、金融管理部门以及社会各阶层人士手足无措,叠加构成一幅独特金融画卷。文章通过对原始史料的梳理,以金融大挤兑事件为主线,还原历史真相,从金融视角丰富了广州学内涵。

The first national central bank of China was founded in Canton, China’s commercial centre for centuries. Close down of Guangdong Bank symbolized the second rush of bank close-downs in Chinese modern history. Government officials, financial administrations, and people of all social classes were unprepared to that rush, which constituted a unique panorama of that time in financial perspective. This essay sorts out the original historical documents, focusing on the bank run incident, with an attempt to enrich the study of Canton from financial side.
