Diachronic Developments and the Interrelation of Face and(im)Politeness Research

本文对面子、礼貌、不礼貌的语用研究进行纵向梳理,旨在明晰相关研究范式的历时演变,把握类似话题的核心观点及其研究的国际最新动态。本研究发现,从历时视角来看,面子、礼貌、不礼貌三个话题的研究范式总体上经历了从单一理论视角到多维度和多理论交叉视角的发展趋向;三者研究存在着交互关联,具体表现为交际中的语用理据及其阐释的理论基础之间的关联性。基于以上发现,本文提出了该领域语用研究在我国未来发展的几点启示。

This paper presents a general review of face and （im）politeness research abroad. It aims to capture the major concerns and the dominant approaches so as to examine the diachronic developments regarding research on face and （im）politeness and the recent trends. It is found that multi-theoretical and multi-dimensional perspectives of face and （ira）politeness have been adopted in research, rather than mono ones; and some issues concerning face and （im）politeness are closely interrelated in terms of their motivations in communication and theoretical foundations for their interpretation. Implications for pragmatic studies in China are also discussed.
