On the Historical and Cultural Connotations of Village Place Names:Taking Binzhou City,Shaanxi Province as an Example

地名是人们赋予某一特定地理区域的专有名词,也是一定区域经济、政治、文化的综合反映。地名以其所具有的直观性、时代性等特点,不仅反映了当地的自然地理环境而且包含着丰富的历史文化内涵,对于了解当地的地形地貌、村落的相对地理位置、信仰民俗、地域传说、历史、语言与禁忌以及基层社会组织结构等诸多方面具有重要参考价值。

Place names are the special names that people give geographical locations, and it is also the comprehensive reflection of certain regional economy, politics and culture. Place names, characterized by its intuitiveness and epochalness, which reflects the local natural geographical environment and contains rich historical and cultural connotations to understand the local terrain and landforms, the relative geographical location of villages, to understand the local beliefs, local folklore, local legends, history, language and taboos, and the basic social organization structure of the local ethnic groups, have important reference values.
