"旧学邃密,新知深沉"的胡适在中国现代文化思想史上是一位影响深远的重要人物。他具有革新精神,首发"文学革命"之呐喊,首倡新诗和白话文,使文学及语言的运用发生实质性的变革。胡适融通怀疑精神、实验主义方法、"大胆假设,小心求证"和中国传统学术方法范式,他的学术研究方法在新文化运动及其以后影响很大。在他的方法论的影响下产生了很多颇有成就的学术巨匠。

Hu Shi, who was praised as doing a research on old learning to the extent of fineness and carefulness andhaving a mastery of new knowledge to the degree of deepness and compactness, is a significant figure with far-reaching influence in the history of modern Chinese cultural thought. Hu Shi had the spirit of innovation. He sentout the first cry of ＂literary revolution＂, first initiated new poetry and vernacular, and brought substantial changes tothe application of literature and language. Hu Shi＇s academic research methods which integrates skepticism,experimentalism and traditional Chinese academic research methods and his academic research practice ofhypothesizing objects of study boldly and verifying them carefully produced great impact in and after the NewCulture Movement. Hu Shi＇s methodology produced a large number of successful academic masters.
