The Britain underwent unrest and upheaval belween the late 1600s and early 1700s. Political unrest provides the prerequisite for the development of female thoughts. Mary Astell is known as the first feminist of early modern Britain, who voices opinions for females, arguing for the gender equality in intelligence and competence, educational opportunities, matrimonial relationship and religion and fighting for more equal rights and opportunities for females. Her thoughts break awayfrom the bondage of patriarchy like a beam of light. Although there are conservative elements in her thoughts, she has a far-reaching ilffluence on the development of female movement and feminist thoughts.
