Due to poor English foundation and single writing teaching method, the writing ability of arts college students is weak. The noticing function, the hypothesis function and the metalinguistie function are instructive to the English writing of arts colleges. In order to improve the writing ability of arts students, teachers should stinmlating students＇ interests in writing, make full use of the nmlti- ple feedback, cultivate English thinking habits and avoid negative transfer of mother tongue.
