Wu Niantan's novel Unbridled Growth addresses Chinese village problems of yesterday and today. The novel accounts for the growing history of a youngster Zhu Xiaolu, and casts light upon the tragedy facing many village people like Zhu, when the conflict between the countryside and city is escalating. While the novel exposes huge survival pressure that the village is undertaking in Chinese social transformation, it depicts the people's spiritual struggle and their self-rescue effort.
