Photography occupies an important place in contemporary American literature. The descriptions of photography in contemporary American novels not only reflect every aspect of the real life of contemporary Americans, but also have hidden meanings, which actually present the secret inner worlds of them. When the characters are behind the camera, they are curious about the unknown things. When they gaze at family albums, they recollect and miss the warmth of the family. When they are suffering from interpersonal barriers and have to turn to photo scrapbooks for consolation, they fall in loneliness, obstacles and paranoia. Like a lamp that illuminates a heart, the description of photography casts light upon those deepest hidden feelings of contemporary Americans.
