20世纪50-70年代,中国的动物外交逐渐展开,动物外交包括动物园之间的动物交换和政府之间的互赠。北京动物园地处首都,成为动物外交的最佳载体。这一时期的动物外交主要是同前苏联、朝鲜和东欧社会主义国家之间进行,随后又主要同日本、美国和西欧国家之间进行。动物外交成为了中国外交的风向标,动物交流数量的多寡和质量的高低体现了中国外交的侧重点,这一时期的动物外交具有高度政治性,动物外交鲜明地体现了当时中国的外交战略。

In the 50s—70s of the 20th century,China＇s animal diplomacy began gradually. Animal diplomacy included animal exchanges between zoos and mutual gifts between governments. Located in the capital,the Beijing Zoo is the best carrier for animal diplomacy.The animal diplomacy of this period mainly dealt with the Soviet Union,North Korea and socialist countries of Eastern European ,and then with Japan,United States and Western European countries. Animal diplomacy has become a vane of China＇s diplomacy. The quantity of animal exchanges and the level of quality reflect the focus of China＇s diplomacy. Animal diplomacy during this period is highly political,clearly reflectingChina＇s initial diplomatic strategy.
