肾为先天之本,人体的生长发育以及生殖能力的成熟和衰退由肾中阴阳所主宰。天癸在相应阶段的泌至与盛衰存在着规律性,而这种规律性与人体肾气的充盛与衰弱存在着相似性。女子怀孕以后,天癸的主要作用是推动冲任二脉直接作用于胞宫,孕育胎儿,而胎儿能否发育正常,都与天癸有着密切的关系。如果女子在妊娠期,体内天癸出现了异常,那么将直接影响胎儿的发育,对妊娠结局造成不良影响,最常见的表现就是临床中的妊娠疾病以及胎萎不长的情况。在天癸的作用下,胎儿的脏腑、筋骨、脑髓、血脉、肌肤等有形物质才能够得以逐渐完善。另外,天癸还有促进性别分化的作用。由此可知,在受孕至生产的整个过程中,天癸作用于妊娠的各个阶段。目前经常可见的高龄孕妇所怀胎儿畸形、不明原因胚胎停育等,均与肾气衰、天癸将竭有着密切关系。可以说天癸的泌至与盛衰和人体生命的盛衰与种族繁衍有着紧密的关系。
