Philosophy of Syndrome Differentiation and Disease Differentiation

辨证论治发端于《伤寒杂病论》,其本质是强调＂辨证求因,审因论治＂,因此辨证论治远不是中医临床诊疗的唯一和全部;辨病这一概念源自《五十二病方》,能反映某种疾病全过程的总体属性、特征和规律,但中医学对疾病的认识尚为粗浅且发展缓慢。虽然在不同的历史时期,中医药对辨证论治或辨病论治有所侧重,但却始终未曾在实际诊疗中将二者割裂开来,辨证和辨病都是从不同角度对疾病规律的认识,二者应相辅相成,立足自身,以病机研判为共同旨归。

Syndrome differentiation,originated from Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases,emphasizes on ＂seeking the cause of disease from syndrome differentiation and administering prescription by ascertaining the causes＂. Thus it is just a part of the clinical diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine（TCM）. Disease differentiation,originated from Prescriptions for Fifty-two Diseases,which can reflect the overall process,attributes and characteristics of diseases. But the recognition of disease in TCM is superficial and devolops slowly. Syndrome differentiation and disease differentiation are different perspectives of diseases and have each particular emphasis in different periods. Therefore,we have never separated the two models in the actual diagnosis and treatment of TCM. Syndrome differentiation and disease differentiation are the understanding of the law of disease from different angles,and complementary for each other,both aimed to explore the pathogenesis.
