An Overview of the Research on Ouyi Zhixu's Scholarship on the Changes

明末高僧蕅益智旭的《周易禅解》是"以佛解易,易佛融通"的集大成著作。上世纪八九十年代,学人开始从多角度研究其易学思想。有从文本解读角度进行的研究;有从易佛、儒佛融通视角进行的研究;有从三教关系上进行的研究;有从思想史、哲学史角度进行的研究;还有从纯粹佛家角度进行的研究。这三十多年来,海内外的研究成果颇为宏富,但也到了瓶颈期,亟需一个总结。只有从整体上把握这些研究成果,才能在智旭易学思想研究以及佛学易研究上找到新的突破点。

Ouyi Zhixu（1599-1655）was one of the four renowned monks in the late Ming（1368-1644）dynasty,whose Zhou yi chanjie（A Buddhist Interpretation of the Zhou Changes）was a synthetic magnum opus fusing Buddhism and the Yi jing.Since he had always been identified as a famous monk,his achievements in the study of the Yi jing had always been overshadowed by his contribution to Buddhism,and it was not until 1980 sand 1990 sthat scholars from both China's Mainland and Taiwan began to pay attention to his thought based on the Book of Changes.In this regard,some scholars did research from the perspective of his text interpretation,some from his integration of Buddhism and the Yi jing,some from the relationship between the three religions（of Buddhism,Daoism,and Confucianism）,some from the development of ideology and philosophy,some from pure Buddhism.In the past 30 years,there have been abundant achievements on this book,but its study also entered a bottleneck and urgently needs a summary.Only if we can grasp these achievements as a whole,can we find a point of breakthrough in the study of his thought related to both the Yi jingand Buddhism.
