The"One Line"is a special category in the philosophy of the Book of Changes. The celebrated Qing(1644-1912)painters Bu Yantu and Dai Deqian believed that the theories and principles of ancient Chinese painting were all developed from the ontology of the"One Line",which was also referred as the Taiji(Supreme Ultimate).Changeability, numinous knowledge, and the principle of telepathy penetrating all phenomena and events revealed by the Yi jingprovided an open aesthetic psychological basis for the experiences of creation of literature, poetry, calligraphy, painting, music and other arts.Artists should adhere to the spirit of absolute sincerity disclosed by the Book of Changes and ought to be diligent, modest, and devoted, and also accumulate knowledge and wisdom.
