Grammar is Generative and Interest is Formative——An Interview with Professor C.-T James Huang

This is an interview about the world-renowned linguist C.-T James Huang.Professor Huang first shared his study experience and how he became a linguist. Then he utilized metaphors to introduce the basic ideas of Generative Grammar, especially the relationship between nature and nurture, and how the language environment influences language acquisition. Furthermore, Professor Huang discussed the philosophical basis of Chomsky＇s thought and the underlying relationship between various subjects. Professor Huang pointed out that no matter what subject one studies, interest is the most important factor. He also offered his view on the current situation and method of grammar teaching in middle schools.
