索尔仁尼琴更多地被理解为苏联体制的批判者,但却忽略了他对抽象人性,或曰人的终极存在的关注,而恰恰是在这一层面上,他是陀思妥耶夫斯基传统的忠实继承者。他的小说《癌病房》最集中地体现了他对陀思妥耶夫斯基追问无辜受难这一命题的诠释,探讨了人性自身存在的缺陷以及救赎的可能;而这一切同样是借助于陀思妥耶夫斯基的时空叙事模式来展示的。
People consider Solzhenitsyn as a critic of the Soviet system, but ignore his interest in abstract humanity, or in the ultimate existence of man. But it is precisely at this level that he is a true successor to the tradition of Dostoevsky. His novel, The Cancer Ward, embodies a concentrated interpretation of Dostoevsky's proposition, the inquiry about the crucifixion of the innocent. His novel discusses the defects of human nature, and the possibility of redemption. All of these characteristics are illustrated with Dostoevsky's space-time narrative pattern.
