A Review of Recent Reports on the South China Sea Issue by the US Mainstream Media

过去一年多来，美国主流媒体一直密切关注南海问题。通过梳理发现，美国主流媒体涉南海问题相关报道数量多、类型丰富、发稿频率高，调查时段出现明显峰值。美国主流媒体涉南海问题报道主要聚焦南海岛礁后续基础设施建设、南海航行自由问题、中国在南海地区的行为举动、域内域外国家在南海的反应及行动、特朗普政府的南海政策等五个方面的内容。报道素材选择片面、议题设置具有策略性、政治立场倾向鲜明是美国主流媒体涉南海问题报道的显著特征。这些片面且非客观的报道误导了国际舆论，对中国产生了不利影响。鉴于此，中国须发挥国内媒体的主观能动性，有针对性地进行南海问题国际传播，有效管控中美两国的矛盾分歧，促进与东盟国家在南海的相关合作，维护南海地区的和平与稳定。

Over the past year, the mainstream media in the United States paid close attention to the South China Sea issue. It is found that US mainstream media has a large number and high frequency of various reports on the South China Sea issue, showing obvious peak hour of investigation. The reports of US mainstream media on the South China Sea mainly focus on the following five aspects ： infrastructure construction in the South China Sea islands and reefs, freedom of navigation, China＇s actions in the South China Sea, the reactions and actions of South China Sea claimants and other extraterritorial powers, and Trump＇s South China Sea policy. There are some notable features in the US mainstream media coverage of the South China Sea issue, such as one-sided reporting materials, strategic agenda setting, and obvious political inclination. These biased reports misled the international public opinion and had a negative influence on China. In view of this, China should give full play to the role of its domestic media, carry out international dissemination of the South China Sea issue in a targeted manner. China should also effectively control the differences with the United States, and promote cooperation with ASEAN countries so as to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea region.
