Since the Han and Tang dynasties, Yumen Pass has played an irreplaceable role in defending the security of Chang＇an and the Central Plains. The ＂Silk Road＂ has made a great contribution to the east-west traffic, trade and cultural ex- changes, and has been described richly and colorfully in the poems of the Tang Dynasty. Yumen Pass has been the border, the battlefield, and a place for heroes to achieve ambitions, and has been closely related to the fame and victory. Yumen Pass is a symbol of distant foreign lands, and a mood of homesickness. The boundless desert, majestic mountains, the Great Wall, count- less pavilions, and smoke towers connected together by Yumen Pass have constituted the entire frontier landscape with the beauty of wilderness. As the most important aesthetic image in the poems of the Tang Dynasty, Yumen Pass has cast a profound signifi- cance and formed the lofty and bright realm. Meanwhile, it has intertwined with many feelings, such as the patriotism and the homesickness, and has been a witness of a glorious age.
