Treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Based on the Theory of Intestinal Arthralgia

肠痹是中医"六腑痹"之一,是现代医家遗忘的古病名。通过对《黄帝内经》等文献的研究可发现,肠痹是由饮食起居内伤,风、寒、湿邪外感,内外合邪所致,症状为腹泻、腹胀痛、气喘、关节疼痛等,其症状、机理与现代炎性肠病有相通之处,关节痹痛更是炎性肠病常见的并发症。肠痹的治疗大法为补气、祛风、散寒、除湿,方药以风药为主,将其运用于现代炎性肠病的治疗,可取得良好的疗效。

Intestinal arthralgia is one of the six fu-organs arthralgia in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is an ancient disease forgotten by modern doctors. Through the study of the literature such as Huangdineijing,it can be found that the intestinal arthralgia is caused by internal injury of overstrain and improper diet, external invasion of wind, cold and dampness, or both of them. Its symptoms includes diarrhea, abdominal pain, asthma,joint pain and so on, which have similarities with inflammatory bowel diseases. And joint pain is a common complication of inflammatory bowel diseases. The treatment of intestinal arthralgia is tonifying qi, dispelling wind, dispersing cold and reducing dampness. Therefore, the prescription is mainly constitute by wind herbs, which can be used to inflammatory bowel diseases to obtain good curative effect.
