The battleship δρομωνεs had played a very important role in the Byzantine navy actions for maintaining the rights and interests of the Byzantine Empire around the Mediterranean Sea, specally on its eastern part. This battleship was constructed by the Byzantines with the traditional skill of ancient Greek and Roman technology, with some innovations on the sail, weapon, Greek fire,and so on. The δρομωνεζ could enjoy its agility and light advantage on the shallow sea of the eastern Mediterranean during the long time from the 5 th to the 15 th centuries, when the navy of Italian maritime states such as Genoa, Venice and Pisa rised abruptly, and they replaced the Byzantine supremacy on the sea.
