《生死疲劳》中的文化负载词及其翻译策略探讨

语言能真实地反映一个国家、一个民族的生态地域、物质文化、宗教信仰、风俗习惯等。文化负载词最能体现语言中浓厚的民族色彩和鲜明的文化个性。由于英汉两种语言之间的巨大差异,文化负载词的翻译为译者带来很大的困难和挑战。恰因如此,能否恰当地翻译文化负载词成为衡量译作是否成功的重要标志。本文以莫言的小说《生死疲劳》英译本为切入点,审视英译本中对原文文化负载词的翻译,由此挖掘文化负载词的多种翻译方法,包括直译法、音译法、意译法和文化替换法等。

language is a reflection of a country or a nation’s environment,material culture,religions and beliefs,customs and so on. Culture-loaded words show national features and distinct cultural qualities. Due to the cultural divergence between Chinese and English,the translation of culture-loaded words brings great challenge to translators. And just because of that,the success of translating culture-loaded words plays an important part in the success of the whole translation. The paper will discuss culture-loaded words in Life and Death Are Wearying Me Out and their translation approaches,i.e. literal translation,transliteration,free translation and cultural substitution and so on.
