FAN Wenhu,a famous physician in modern times,treated stomachache clinically by generally classifying the nature of disease into deficiency and excess, and made good use of modified Lizhong tang and Baohe pills. He usually applied the simple prescription of dried litchi and sea cucumber in the treatment of enduring diarrhea for years to achieve the clinical effect slowly,while he frequently chose compound Maxing Shigan tang and Buzhong Yiqi tang for problematic diarrhea. In order to treat dysentery, he either followed the classical prescriptions without being confined by traditions or adopted the non-classical prescriptions by flexibility and adaption. FAN＇s prescription and medication are prudent and resolute with prompt decisions being made,and the ancient prescriptions as well as simple prescriptions are flexibly applied,changeably various and exactly appropriate.
