Lin Sheng＇s poetry collection The New Ballads of the Sunset Pavilion is composed of three parts ： the first part is a collection of poems from his viewing of the historical sites at home and abroad, and all histori- cal sites axe reflected from a modem perspective, with the revolutionary historical relics manifesting the realis- tic educational significance. The second part is mainly about the memories of many unforgettable people and events in the course of the poet＇ s life, with poetic values of the past events added into the poems. The third part is a collection of poems inscribed on the paintings of his own, which not only enhance the poetic land- scape, but also incarnate the common aesthetic laws of poetry and painting. Lin Sheng is a poet painter; some of his poems are verses of metric and some ancient, while all are noted for true and genuine feelings. Extraordi- nary aesthetic gains can be achieved through reading his poems.
