摘要
基于认知语言学中的意象图式理论,以从英国国家语料库收集到的包含over的语料为研究对象,探究介词over的概念意义及其隐喻意义的延伸。结果表明:介词over的意义之间相互联系,存在从空间域到抽象域的隐喻延伸,如距离关系中的社会关系是垂直关系的隐喻延伸,抽象的覆盖关系是具体的覆盖关系的隐喻延伸,数量关系表示一种空间上抽象的高低关系,也是over基本意义的一种隐喻延伸,动态的时间关系是空间关系前-后的一种隐喻延伸意义。从意象图式的角度探讨介词语义,对今后英语介词的教学和习得大有裨益。
Based on the materials collected from the BNC, this paper aims to explore the metaphorical meanings of OVER from its conceptual meanings by applying the image schema theory. It concludes that meanings of OVER are interconnected and there exist metaphorical extensions from spatial domain to abstract one, for example, the social relation is a metaphorical extension of vertical relation, the abstract covering relation is a metaphorical extension of the concrete one, the quantitative relation is a metaphorical extension of abstract spatial high-low relation, etc. In addition, analyzing prepositional meanings from this perspective is highly beneficial to English learners.
