Both Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights highlight women’s awakening in the post-colonial era, and the protagonists in the two works represent the writer’s will. Although both works reflect women’s requirements for independence and express their struggle against the masculinecentered society; however, Jane Eyre’s struggle fails to break through the measurement of values from males’ perspective, while Catherine keeps her independence spiritually. In this sense, the differences in Jane Eyre and Catherine’s female consciousness can be discussed from the roots and manifestations.
