中国古代小说自产生到晚清,文体地位逐步提升。小说从不受重视的"小道"变为可以"补史"的重要文献资料,提高了小说在整个文化领域中的地位,奠定了小说作为文学文体在文学序列中地位提升的基础。明代文人深度参与小说的批评与研究,成为小说文体地位提升的直接动力。清代文人小说创作的繁荣,表明小说已成为文人表达自我的一种新文体,小说文体地位真正确立。

From the appearance to the late Qing Dynasty, the stylistic status of Chinese ancient novels gradually promoted. From the neglected＂minority＂to the important documentary materials which can＂make up the history＂, it improved the status of novel in the whole cultural field and laid the foundation for the promotion of novel as a literary style in the literary sequence. The literati of Ming Dynasty deeply participated in the criticism and research of novels, which became the direct motive force for the promotion of the stylistic status of novels. The prosperity of literati novels in Qing Dynasty indicated that novels have become a new style for literati to express themselves. And this meant that the stylistic status of the novel was truly established.
