Studies on Xiong Tingbi's Opposition to the Strategy of Using Liao People to Defend Liao

熊廷弼反对"以辽守辽"战略,一方面是基于辽东残破、辽民不堪战的现状;另一方面是基于对"辽人"概念的不同认识,认为辽东的豪势提倡此说,其目的是巩固自身在辽东的特权地位。熊廷弼反对"以辽守辽"是其慎战思想的具体体现,但因为朝廷调集军队、粮饷不堪重负,熊氏的战略不能得到有效实行。对"以辽守辽"战略的态度,集中反映了明朝速战派与慎战派之间的矛盾。

The reason for why Xiong Tingbi's opposition to the strategy of "using Liao people to defend Liao" was formed on the foundation of Liaodong was broken and Liao people were difficult to combat against enemy; on the other hand, it was based on the different understanding of the concept of "Liao people" of whom he believed that Liaodong's powers advocated his view to consolidate their privileged position in Liaodong. However, Xiong's strategy couldn't be effectively implemented because of the army was not be assembled effectively and provisions was vacant from time to time. The attitude toward the "using Liao people to defend Liao" strategy focused on the disputes between the rapid war supporters and the prudent war supporters in the Ming Dynasty.
