摘要
一个国家在国际上的文学形象主要由一国文学作品自身的文学价值和艺术决定,也与翻译紧密相关——翻译的选材和翻译的方法与策略决定了特定文学作品能否被异域读者所接受,也在一定程度上关系到一个国家的整体文学形象。在笔者看来,国内外译介中国文学过程中所表现出来的选材倾向和译者在翻译过程中对于信息的过度关注,都不利于展示良好的中国文学形象。当代中国文学形象不尽如人意,主要是因为英语世界没有选择最具有文学价值和艺术水准的作品进行翻译,对于其所选的作品,因为看重的是作品中的信息,而不是其文学价值和艺术水准,译者没有将其当成文学作品来翻译,作品的文学性被忽略、被抹杀。
The image of a nation' s literature is undoubtedly dependent on the literary and artistic value of specific works themselves, but it is also closely connected with translation, or to be specific, with which works of its literature are chosen to be translated and how they are handled in the actual translation process. The present author believes that the image of modem and contemporary Chinese literature is not satisfactory owing to the fact that both the state-sponsored translation of Chinese literature and the translation initiated by agents in the West were politically motivated in their choices of works to translate, and that the translators paid more attention to the information than to the literariness of the original Chinese works, and the literariness is sometime erased rather than reproduced faithfully.
