西部少数民族题材美术创作是中国现当代艺术史上的重要现象。美术创作的"西部热"使得中国现当代美术史有了完全不同于中国传统美术史更不同于西方现代美术史的特质与精神内涵。在对中国现代艺术史的建构过程中,西部民族题材美术创作体现了"重识传统与范式拓展""视向转换与风格重构"以及"民族想象与国家认同"的创作特点。

The creation of fine arts themed on western ethnic minorities is an important phenomenon in Chi-nese modem and contemporary art history. The ＂fever for west＂ in the creation of fine arts introduced uniquecharacteristics and spiritual connotation into Chinese modem and contemporary art history, which is differentfrom Chinese traditional art histocy and Western modern art history. During the construction of Chinese rood-ern art history, several characteristics are seen in the creation of fine arts themed on western nationalities,such as ＂re - recognition of tradition and the extension of paradigm＂, ＂transfomlation of perspectives and re-construction of style＂, and ＂imagination of nationalities and national identity＂.
