The Intention of Nonsatrirical Writing:A Supplement to the Theme of the Scholars

《儒林外史》作为一本讽刺小说,因其书中大量辛辣的讽刺描写而家喻户晓,但其实这并不意味着小说想表达的主题就是讽刺性描写内容的本身。小说中的非讽刺性内容才是吴敬梓想表达的关键,不能忽略非讽刺性部分所蕴含的深刻意蕴。吴敬梓通过讽刺众多反面的小人物,用以突出为数不多的正面人物。小说主题是对知识分子人生道路的思考。

As a satirical novel,The Scholars is widely known because of a lot of bitter irony. However,this does not mean that the theme which the novel wants to express is this satirical description. The non-satirical content in the novel is the key that Wu JingZi wants to express,and can not ignore the profound content contained in the non-satirical part. Wu JingZi satirizes many negative characters to represent a few positive figures. The theme of this novel is about Wu JingZi＇s exploration of the intellectuals＂ life paths,which is based on his understanding of the times and social back- ground.
