天坛曾经作为明清时期的皇家祭坛和封建王朝合法性的象征，以其独特的功能、特殊的地位穿越近500年的历史长河。1918年元旦，天坛作为公园向公众开放。从此，平民百姓未敢涉足的皇家禁地迎来了新生，成为公园。
