Purchasing patent for defense, licensing or assignment of patent to obtain high revenue, make Microsoft to be a leader in the knowledge economy. This article introduces Microsoft＇s two major intellectual property strategic plans—Azure IP Advantage Program and Shared Innovation Initiative, analyzes the advantages and limitations of the both. The Azure IP Advantage Program extends the patent protection to cloud users. The Shared Innovation Initiative indicates that Microsoft intends to establish a future-oriented, open and shared patent ecology. It also briefly introduces the patent management.
