From the Port to the Inland——Jiaoji Railway and Urban Development and Spatial evolution of Modern Cities in Shandong

1904年开通的胶济铁路是山东地区最早的一条东西交通动脉,也是国内较早通车的铁路。胶济铁路的开通极大地改变了山东地区城市的分布,促成了经济重心的转移。首先,铁路沿线形成了青岛、坊子等新兴的港口和工业城镇;其次,济南、淄博因铁路的开通而更加繁荣和密切联系;再次,作为胶济铁路起点,青岛近代城市布局对山东近代城市产生极大影响。自此,山东地区的新兴城市完全摒弃传统城市布局,开始了近代化城市发展的新局面。

The jiaoji railway has been the earliest east-west artery of shandong province since it opened to traffic in 1904,The opening of the jiaoji railway greatly changed the distribution of cities of Shandong province, shifting its economic center from coastline to the inland area. With the help of Jiaoji railway, the cities alone the railway such as Qingdao and Fangzi has boosted into new ports and industrial cities; While the inland cities such as Jinan and Zibo has been more and more prosperous. Qidao ,as the starting point of Jiaoji railway has had great influence to the cities of Shandong in modern times. Since the opening of Jiaoji railway, the emerging cities of Shandong has completely abandoned the traditional urban layout and started the new development of modern cities in Shandong.
