Han Dao and Political Culture of Han Dynasty

"汉道"乃古代典籍中的常见词汇,指汉朝治国治天下之道。汉代史家对"周道"的历史书写深刻地影响了帝国政治,在"汉家法周"的思想下,"汉道"完成了对"周道"的扬弃。"汉道"的核心思想是奉天法古,即通过天人感应与复古改制,为汉帝国政权合法性之建构增加砝码。此外,由于汉帝国有着强盛的国力与发达的文化,"汉道"也成为后世王朝追溯的典范。

Han Dao is a common word in ancient classics, which means the Han Dynasty ＇ s way of governing the country. The historical writing of Zhou Dao by the historians in Han Dynasty had an effect on the imperial politics . Based on the thought that Han dynasty ＇ s imitation of Zhou Dynasty, Han Dao completed sublation of the ideology of Zhou Dao. The main thought of Han Dao is to conform to the will of heaven and imitate practice of ancient times, which meant increasing legality for the construction of the Han Dynasty＇ s regime through the response between heaven and human being, restoring ancient ideology and transforming of existing system. In addition, since the Han Dynasty possessed strong national power and highly developed culture, Han Dao also became a classical role model of ruling of the country for the later dynasties to follow.
