In the article, a series of surveys were made on English teaching and learning related to upgrad-ing from junior college to university in vocational colleges in China, based on the realities both home and abroad. Through literature review, questionnaires and interviews, the survey finds that vocational college stu-dents take a positive attitude towards the current textbooks and teachers, whose percentages of acceptance are 91% and 99%.But the personal grammar books, English dictionaries, upgrading materials and textbooks for self-study are insufficient. The percentages of those who haven’t got are 83%,56%,68% and 87%, which shows clearly the shortage of material preparations. The second survey on learning methods indicates that 79% students study English less than 5 hours a week (including 14 students spending no time). 37% students study attentively in class. Only 16% try their best to follow the principle of preview, listening in class and review. Ob-viously, more time and energy are needed to spend on English. However, 72% agree learners play a key role in learning English. The students in vocational colleges are eager to make progress and obtain Bachelor Degree. The statistics depicts 78% of the students wish to join in the Exam Upgrading from Junior College to University.
