Attitudes of Chinese Students Studying in Scottish Universities Towards Varieties of English

调查苏格兰地区中国留学生对于8种不同英语变体的态度,旨在解决如下问题:(1)苏格兰地区中国留学生是否对某种英语变体有所偏好?这种偏好与国内大学生是否一致?(2)苏格兰地区中国留学生是否能认识到不同的英语变体?(3)苏格兰地区中国留学生如何看待中国英语?通过问卷与采访相结合的方式,研究发现苏格兰地区中国留学生对内圈英语表现出积极态度,对外圈和扩展圈英语的态度较复杂,他们对待某种英语变体的态度与他们对于这种英语变体的熟悉度相关。

This study investigates attitudes of Chinese students who have studied in universities in Scotland for over a year towards different varieties of English. This study addresses three research questions ： （ 1 ） Do Chi- nese students in Scottish universities prefer certain varieties of English and is the result consistent with those studying in Chinese universities .9 （2） Are Chinese students in Scottish universities aware of different varieties of English？ （3） How do they judge China English？ In order to examine participants＇ attitudes, both questionnaire and interview were employed to collect qualitative and quantitative dada. The results suggest that participants＇ hold more positive attitudes towards native varieties; their attitudes towards non -native varieties are complicat- and their attitudes are influenced by their familiarity with a specific version of English.
