This paper elaborates on waterborne coatings’ general advantages and disadvantages, mainly introduces common problems of waterborne industrial coatings, the reasons and an overview of research on improvement of their disadvantages, points out that the characteristics of development of waterborne industrial coatings and solvent-based coatings should be understood correctly, and puts forward suggestions on correct promoting and guiding waterborne industrial coatings’ normal development.
