In Qing dynasty,navigation technology and scientific knowledge is far from sufficient to render the fording of the Taiwan strait.Therefore,the literati turn to believe in superstition of the maritime environment and unpredictable mystery of the ocean with reverie and romantic imagination.Their writing is intertwined with reality,imagination,and mythology.
