徐复观在反省与批判现代艺术中,表达了对真正艺术作品、艺术精神主体的自觉、艺术价值的取向等层面的现代性诉求。并通过笺疏孔子和庄子文化艺术精神来重构具有审美现代性功能、以"心"为价值根源、为人们提供精神安顿之所的中国艺术精神,展现出一种真切的心灵忧患与高度的文化自觉。徐复观重构的中国艺术精神,无论对于现代知识分子重建艺术自信、守护"为人生而艺术"的精神家园,还是对于传承中国传统文化艺术、保护和发展民族文化艺术特色都具有重要的学术价值和实践意义。

Xu Fuguan expressed his modern demands for some levels like real works of art,the consciousness of the subject of artistic spirit, the orientation of artistic value in the reflection and critique on modern art. Through interpreting cultural and artistic spirit of Confucius and Chuang-tzu,he reconstructed Chinese art spirit including aesthetic modern function,regarding ＂Heart＂as the root value,providing spiritual enjoyment for people,and showed a real spiritual suffering and highly cultural consciousness. Chinese art spirit rebuilt by Xu Fuguan has the important academic value and practical significance for both modern intellectuals who reconstructed their art confidence and guarded their spiritual home ＂Art for Life＂and for us who inherited Chinese traditional culture and art,protected and developed the characteristics of national culture and art.
